Podophilia or foot fetishism describes a popular and complex fetish. For foot fetishists in general, the foot duplicates the attractions of an entire sexualised body but in a more compact form. Some features of feet that receive particular attention are: their overall shape and size, toes, arches, soles and whether they are clean or dirty.
Toes, for instance, can be singled out for their length, plumpness or the space between the big toe and one next to it. This is known as ‘toe cleavage’. A partialism for toes can also be expressed by the foot fetishist sucking on all of them in turn or favouring the big toe in particular. In either case this practice is known as a ‘toejob’.
On the other hand, a preference for toenails can be defined by whether they are long or short and/or if they are painted or not. If they are painted then the colour and type of nail polish used becomes significant.
The soles of the feet can be more attractive to certain foot fetishists if they are slender as opposed to wide and/or whether they are smooth or hard.
In the same way that partly-clothed bodies tend to be more stimulating that fully naked ones, feet can have a state of dress or undress. Feet that wear specific shoes or socks can repeat the motifs of clothing. Some foot fetishists prefer high heels to flat shoes and a tight pair of socks can leave compression marks on the ankle in a way that is reminiscent of the waistband of panties. Feet can be made to feel glamourous and special in several ways. They can be singled out for special attention from the rest of the body with expensive pedicures, foot spas and comprehensive beauty treatments. Feet are particularly sensitive and responsive to any form of sensory interaction such as kissing, caressing, tickling, licking and sucking. This type of attentiveness finds its ultimate expression in a more ritualised form of foot worship. This practice is important when it is incorporated into the advanced scenarios played out in BDSM and Femdom.
